The Glebe
Most houses in The Glebe are around a century old. Painting them well starts with careful repairs, the right primers and respect for the original woodwork.
Painting in The Glebe
The Glebe runs from the Queensway south to the Rideau Canal, with Bank Street through the middle, and most of it was built in the first few decades of the 1900s. Streets are lined with brick and frame houses on narrow lots, many with front porches, bay windows and deep wood trim. Bank Street's shops and restaurants carry the neighbourhood's daily life, and Lansdowne Park sits at the southern end by the canal. The homes are well loved, and they show their age in ways a painter has to plan for.
Our crew brings more than 50 years of combined experience to that kind of work. We fix cracks and holes before painting, talk you through products and colours that suit older rooms with tall ceilings and mixed light, and keep the work area organized in older houses with narrow halls and stairs. Estimates are free and you'll get a written proposal. Businesses on Bank Street can ask about commercial interior painting, and homeowners can request an estimate online.

Local homes
Many Glebe interiors are still plaster on wood lath, and after a hundred years of seasonal movement, cracks come with the territory. Good plaster repair is slow work: loose material comes out, cracks are filled in stages and patches are feathered so they disappear under paint. Trim, stair railings, doors and window casings often carry many coats, and some of the lower ones may be oil-based. Most of these houses predate 1960, so older coats may contain lead, and testing them before sanding is the safe place to start.
Outside, most of the painting is on wood. Porches, railings, window trim, soffits and fascia take the brunt of snow, ice and summer sun, and on a hundred-year-old house some of that wood has been repainted many times. Loose paint has to come off and bare spots need primer before a new coat will last. Every exterior job includes a colour consultation, which helps when you want a scheme that suits the age of the house and sits well on the street.
Services in The Glebe
All of our painting services are available in The Glebe. These are the ones we are asked about most here.
Plaster walls, tall baseboards, panelled doors and staircases. We repair cracks and holes, prime where older oil-based coats need it and use premium low-VOC paint on interior walls throughout the house.
Porches, railings, trim, soffits, fascia and doors, with loose paint removed and bare wood primed. Each coat goes on within the temperature window the product requires, so it cures properly before the weather turns.
Shops, restaurants and offices along Bank Street, with the focus on interiors. Tell us how your week runs and we'll discuss a schedule for the work as part of the quote.

View ProjectYes. Trim and panelled doors in older homes need extra prep, especially where many coats have built up or oil-based paint sits underneath. We clean and scuff-sand, use a bonding primer where needed and apply the finish with care. If you'd rather keep original stained wood unpainted, tell us and we'll work around it.
Please remove personal items and fragile décor from the rooms we're painting, which matters most around built-in shelves and mantels. We handle most of the prep, including repairs to cracks and holes. At the end of each day, tools and materials are packed away so the rest of the house stays usable.
Yes, porch trim and railings can be included in your exterior quote. On an older Glebe porch, the work usually means scraping loose paint, priming bare wood and filling gaps before the finish coats. It's weather-dependent work that has to wait for the right temperatures, so book early for the warmer months.
Tell us about your The Glebe project and we will book a time to talk it through.
