Westboro
Westboro puts early 1900s houses, postwar homes and modern infill on the same block. Each one needs a different plan, and we treat them that way.
Painting in Westboro
Westboro grew along Richmond Road in the early 1900s as a streetcar suburb west of downtown, and it became part of the City of Ottawa in 1950. Many of its original houses are modest brick or frame homes, with postwar houses mixed in. Over the past couple of decades, a lot of those lots have been redeveloped, so a narrow modern infill with flat walls and big windows might sit right next to a house that's close to a century old. Westboro Beach and the river pathways are a short walk north.
Older Westboro houses often have plaster walls, wood trim carrying years of paint and doors that have been painted shut at some point. We repair cracks and holes before painting and take the time to get trim and doors to a clean line. For businesses along Richmond Road, we offer commercial interior painting and will discuss timing around your hours. Request an estimate and we'll phone to talk through the house before we write up your proposal.

Local homes
Plaster walls behave differently from drywall. They're harder, they crack in long lines as a house settles, and patches can show through fresh paint if the repair isn't feathered out properly. In Westboro's older homes, trim, baseboards and window casings may carry many coats, some of them oil-based. New latex paint won't bond well over glossy oil without cleaning, scuff-sanding and the right primer. Houses from before about 1960 can also have lead in the bottom layers, so a test before sanding is a sensible first step.
Infill homes are the other half of Westboro. They're usually finished in drywall with crisp corners, big windows and tall walls, and the design tends to be minimal, so any flaw in the paint shows. Stairwells, feature walls and ceilings need even coverage and straight cut lines. Outside, older homes may have wood porches, trim and soffits that need scraping and priming, while infill exteriors often mix siding with painted accents. Our interior painting and exterior crews handle both.
Services in Westboro
All of our painting services are available in Westboro. These are the ones we are asked about most here.
For plaster walls and heavily painted trim, we repair cracks, feather patches and use the right primer so new paint bonds. Infill interiors get the same care on their long, open walls and stairwells.
Wood porches, trim, soffits, doors and siding on older Westboro houses, plus painted accents on newer builds. Products are chosen to resist peeling and chalking, and every exterior job includes a colour consultation.
Retail shops, studios and offices along Richmond Road, painted on the inside. If the work needs to happen outside opening hours, raise it early and we'll discuss what's possible before quoting.

View ProjectWe repair them first. Cracks in plaster are cleaned out, filled and feathered so the patch doesn't show through, then primed before painting. Hairline cracks that return with the seasons are common in older plaster, but proper repair gives the new paint a much better start.
It's worth checking. Houses built before about 1960 may have lead in older paint layers, especially on trim, windows and doors. Having the paint tested before any sanding or scraping is the safe first step, and the result helps shape the prep plan for your project.
Yes. Our new construction service covers interior walls, ceilings, trim, doors and closets, plus exterior siding, soffit, fascia and trim. We coordinate with your builder and the other trades, use the correct primer on new drywall and give you one point of contact for the whole job.
Tell us about your Westboro project and we will book a time to talk it through.
